Residents of Yamal are laying flowers and honoring the memory of the lost in the war with the Minute of Silence
On the 22nd of June Yamal is marking one of the saddest dates in the history of Russia - the Day of Memory and Sorrow. The Second World War, in which about 27 million Soviet citizens died, will always remain in memory of people, no matter how many years have passed since then.
In Salekhard firefighters honored the memory of the lost in the war with the minute of silence. A prayer service in memory of those, who died during the Great Patriotic War, is being held in the Church of Peter and Paul. A memorial namaz (prayer) is being held in the mosque in Noviy Urengoy.
Representatives of the Legislative Assembly of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug are honoring the memory of their countrymen with the minute of silence and laying flowers and wreaths at the monument to the Grieving mother.
As it should be noted, 8982 people went to the battlefront from Yamal. All of them selflessly fought for peace and freedom of their Motherland. Each third person did not return from the war. For their bravery and courage eight residents of Yamal were awarded with the highest military award - the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Three of them are residents of Salekhard: Anatoly Zverev, Ivan Korolkov and Veniamin Yegorov. More than 3 thousand northerners were awarded with medals and orders.
On the 22nd of June together with Russia more than 80 countries around the world are holding actions in memory of the defenders of the Fatherland, who died in battles against the German-fascist invaders.
