Schoolchildren from Novy Port and Mys Kamenniy learn programming
School students from the remote settlements of Yamal - Novy Port and Mys Kamenniy have completed training in Python programming. The course brought together almost two tens of students within the project “Class of exact sciences” of the social investments program “Hometowns” by the company “Gazprom Neft”.
During four weeks the students solved tasks, calculated formulas and built Python algorithms. Online seminars were held on a weekly basis; the students reviewed tasks and asked questions to the teacher of the course. The learning process included a competitive stage: the students not only completed tasks, but also received points for speed and correct solutions. At the end of the course the tenth-graders Viktor Novak from Mys Kamenniy and Roman Singur from Novy Port became the winners. They completed all the tasks and scored the maximum number of points, as the press center of “Gazpromneft-Yamal” informs. Other 15 students passed training and reached the final of the project. Teachers performed the tasks together with the students. They will be able to use the acquired knowledge in further specialized work with students.
All the participants of the course “Python Programming” received certificates from the organizers of the course - the laboratory “FabLab”, and the winners received certificates from the Stepik learning platform.
“Implementation of the social investments program “Hometowns” (Native towns) in the remote settlements of Yamal Novy Port and Mys Kamenniy with support from “Gazpromneft-Yamal” gives the opportunity to find and develop new effective forms of social partnership. The project “Class of exact sciences” allows students of Yamal schools to study in a new, interactive format. Online training in “Class of exact sciences” will be continued in the new academic year. They will have the opportunity to pass additional education in programming and digitalization, which, I am sure, will be necessary for them in the future”, said Yevgeniy Zakharov, the director for organizational issues at “Gazpromneft-Yamal”.
According to Dmitry Yakovlev, the head of the Tyumen “FabLab” and the teacher of the course, the Python language is the basis for beginners in study of programming and is used all over the world to solve a wide variety of tasks, including creation of applications, websites, games and data processing. The schoolchildren expressed interest in learning and showed high results.
“The programming course was interesting and very useful for me, because programming will be helpful to me in the future. I want to continue my education in this sphere and choose a profession in information technology in oil and gas industry”, said Viktor Novak, the winner of the course, a student of the school from Mys Kamenniy.
