Scientists will study glaciers and lakes on the peninsulas Yamal and Gydan

This year scientists will study glaciers on the Yamal peninsula, Lake Shchuchiye, the Gydan peninsula, will conduct exploration for ecological damage on Vilkitsky Island.

This information was given by the director of the Russian center for exploration of the Arctic Vladimir Pushkaryov on the press-conference in the news agency “Sever-Press”. The employees of the center are also busy with the project “The easternmost point of Europe”. As Vladimir Pushkaryov notes, there are three points in Europe – Portugal, Spain and Norway. They were defined, formed and registered. Big number of tourists visits these points. The Polar Urals is positioned as the easternmost point of Europe that is situated in Yamal. Besides, the center for exploration of the Arctic together with the regional department of education created “School of polar explorers”, where children learn about different components of ecological systems of tundra.
