Synsko-Voykarsky wildlife reserve was created in Yamal

The governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitriy Kobylkin signed the regulation about creation of the state wildlife reserve of regional significance “Synsko-Voykarsky”. The wildlife reserve is situated on the territory of Shuryshkarskiy district. Its total area makes 2 920 square kilometers.

The wildlife reserve consists of two parts. It was created for preservation and reproduction of water biological resources, protection of rare and disappearing species of animals and plants and their genetic fund. Synsko-Voykarsky wildlife reserve has its biological and zoological profile and is aimed at preservation and reproduction of population of whitefish species and also protection of spawning places, protection of rare and disappearing species of animals and plants. It was formed without limitation of duration and without withdrawal of land plots from land users, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs. In particular, from the 15th of August to the 30th of November, all kinds of fishing with nets, underwater hunting, catching of wildlife objects not classified as hunting resources, except catching for scientific purposes, discharge of garbage, waste petroleum products from ships, production waste disposal are prohibited on the territory of the wildlife reserve. Besides, it is prohibited to build and maintain objects, to store building materials, fuel and lubricating materials and equipment, to conduct hydromeliorative and irrigation kinds of work, to cut wood. From the 15th of August to the 30th of November entry and parking of self-propelled vehicles of a number of categories and some other events are restricted. In the wildlife reserve it is permitted to maintain objects required for environmental monitoring, to conduct biotechnical activities, to regulate number of wildlife objects, to fulfill actions for protection and reproduction of forests, to organize recreation activities. It is important that for indigenous population, whose existence and income completely or partially are based on kinds of traditional economic activity, it is permitted to build traditional dwelling and economic buildings without allocation of land plots. Also nature use for providing of own needs is permitted, except fishing with nets and blocking seines from the 15th of August to the 30th of November. As specialists of the department of natural-resource regulation, forestry relations and development of oil and gas complex of Yamal consider, protection of ecological systems of northern spawning rivers is the main task. Scientific substantiation of necessity to create the wildlife reserve was fulfilled by the Institute of ecology of plants and animals, the Ural branch of the Russian Academy of sciences. The necessity of additional protection of the Synya River and the Tan-Yu River is stipulated with their high significance in the process of natural reproduction of water biological resources. Poaching is a big problem, it negatively influences on reserves of precious whitefish species of the Ob basin, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs.
