The banner with the words of the last veteran was installed in Aksarka
The banner with the photograph of the district’s last veteran of the Great Patriotic War Afanasy Sharapov was installed in Aksarka, the center of Priuralskiy district.
“I’d like people to remember and to be ready to love our Motherland as our generation loves it”, the veteran says.
Afanasy Sharapov came to Yamal in 1963 after graduating from the pedagogical institute for five years on the career assignment. During all his life he worked as a teacher and the head at secondary school of Aksarka.
In the years of the war he went to the battlefront to defend his Motherland as a volunteer, not finishing the ninth grade and adding an extra year to his age. He served in intelligence on the Second Baltic Front. Afanasy Sharapov met the long-awaited Victory in hospital of Leningrad.
“Together with our comrades we watched through windows of the hospital at the people, who were full of joy, wept and laughed at the same time. It seemed that everyone around them was full of happiness of the Victory”, the veteran said.
Now Afanasy Sharapov is 94 years old. He is energetic, often communicates with teenagers and children and visits his native school.
