In Yamal about 80 thousand calves were born in reindeer-herding enterprises. Yamalskiy, Tazovskiy and Nadymskiy districts are the leaders.

According to the head of the office of agricultural development at the department of agro-industrial complex of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Andrey Revnivykh, mass calving of reindeer, as a rule, begins at the end of May and lasts until the end of June. This year the calving campaign took place well.

He notes that this year indicators will correspond to the level of last year. Then about 110 thousand reindeer calves were born.

“There are 650 thousand reindeer in the region, the breeding stock makes a half of this number – 325 thousand. In general, about 250 thousand reindeer calves will appear in reindeer-herding farms, herds of enterprises and communities”, Andrey Revnivykh summed up.
