The Russian Geographical Society will conduct the expedition on rivers of Yamal

The sitting of the supervisory board of the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society took place in Salekhard under the chairpersonship of the governor of Yamal Dmitriy Kobylkin.

As Dmitriy Kobylkin notes, last year of the Yamal branch of the Russian Geographical Society was rich and effective. The number of activities and expeditions with participation of youth increased. By his words, it allows making conclusions that work of the Yamal branch is aimed at high results. As the governor notes, today the Russian Geographical Society plays the most important role in exploration of the Russian North, and all its initiatives are directed to strengthening and wellbeing of the country, and there are no doubts that Yamal moves at the same direction, as the head of the region underlines. The chairperson of the Yamal branch of the Russian Geographical Society Igor Sharovatov summed up the results of the society for last year and outlined priority projects for this year. Among them there are: the winter motor-expedition and the arctic expedition, the regional project "Lukomoriye", routes on the 501st and 503rd railroad buildings, the expedition on rivers of Yamal and many others. Igor Sharovatov reminded that 2014 was announced the Year of Culture by the President of Russia and told about one of the most interesting projects – the ethnographic expedition to Lake Numto, which is situated in Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. The ethnographic exhibition "The Nadym River is the sacred breath of Lake Numto" was opened by its results in the town Nadym. It tells about traditional life of forest Nenets people. Dmitriy Kobylkin also marked a special role of Yamal in history of Russia and suggested the Yamal branch of the Russian Geographical Society to pay attention to tourist potential of the region.
