27 countries for 8 years. The Russian tricolor is traveling around the world

The Russian flag, which went around 27 countries of the world during 8 years, came back to Yamal. This information was given on the 11th of June by the deputy director of the department of external relations of Yamal Yevgeniya Baryshnikova to journalists within summing up the results of the action “Tricolor around the world”.

The idea of the action appeared in 2010 at the international forum in Bulgaria, where young compatriots were asked to suggest projects interesting to them. Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug promised to support one of them. Big interest was aroused with the action “Tricolor around the world” suggested by the participants from Portugal. According to their idea, the Russian flag will travel around the world by sending from one organization of compatriots to another. Having received it, the participants of the action take photos with the tricolor on the background of the well-known place of interest of their country and fasten their badge on the flag.

“We developed the first route, including organizations that wished to participate in the action. The flag made the first circle around Europe, starting from Portugal, then it visited Hungary and Germany, but then we lost it from the sight for some time. Compatriots were so active that they changed the laid route because they wanted to receive the flag, which became the symbol of Russia for them; touching it, they have a feeling of being united again to their historical homeland. Probably, this is the reason why the project is so popular”, said Baryshnikova.

Yevgeniya Baryshnikova notes that the tricolor came back to Yamal twice, but, understanding the demand for this action, it was again launched. The Russian flag went around countries of Central Asia and traveled around Africa. Syria became the last point, where the flag went around destroyed streets of the capital. At the World Congress of Compatriots last November the flag was returned to the delegation of Yamal and now, on Russia Day, it is in Salekhard, from where it started its travel around the world.

“We would be glad to continue the travel of our flag, it is in good state, and there is enough space for new badges from other countries. Therefore, we shall be glad, if our compatriots suggest some variants in the future”, she said.

It is planned to bring the Russian tricolor to the international forum “We are for peace in the whole world”, which will take place for the 11th time in Bulgaria from the 23rd to the 28th of August.
