A large-scale project on study of the Achimov Formation is being launched in Yamal
The company “Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz” is launching the large-scale geological prospecting project on study of productive horizons of the Achimov Formation with use of modern technologies. According to specialists, it will allow the company significantly to increase the resource base on existing assets and to create prerequisites for acquisition of new ones. Investments will amount to 3 milliard 700 million rubles. The project is being implemented jointly with “Gazpromneft-GEO” and the Gazprom Neft Scientific and Technical Center.
The portfolio includes 20 license areas with the total area 21 thousand square kilometers. Complex of geological prospecting operations is soon to be fulfilled in four of the most promising ones – Novoromanovskoye, Sugmutskoye, Sutorminskoye and the North-Yangtinskoye. By 2023 it is planned to re-process and interpret 3D seismic data, to conduct core studies, to test existing wells, to drill several new ones and to build regional geological and petrophysical models to confirm the resource potential. The results of the study of these four areas will allow assessing the development potential of the rest 16, as the press center of “Gazprom Neft” reports.
“Change of the structure of reserves that we are currently working with in Western Siberia requires principally new approaches and search for advanced technologies for their cost-effective development. Achimov deposits have enormous potential - according to some estimates of industry experts, about 60 milliard tonnes of oil equivalent. “Gazprom Neft” was the first in the industry to create a conceptual geological model of the Achimov Formation, which covers the area of 1 million 500 thousand square kilometers. Involvement of these resources in development is one of the company’s strategic goals. The talk is about mature assets of “Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz” in the south of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug - these extractive fields can get a second wind, and the accumulated experience will be useful for the entire Russian oil and gas industry”, said Vadim Yakovlev, the deputy director general of “Gazprom Neft”.
