A unique drilling vessel was designed for work in the Arctic
Specialists of Krylov State Research Center designed the conceptual project of the arctic drilling vessel.
As the specialists of the center note, the project can arouse interest of the company "Rosneft" at planning of drilling work on the Russian arctic shelf. As we should remind, Rosprirodnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage) gave permission to Rosneft for introduction of 8 programs on geological prospecting on the shelf of the Western Arctic.
The received positive conclusion of the ecological expertise allows the company during 7 years to conduct big amount of geological prospecting on 11 licensed areas in the Kara Sea, the Barents Sea and the Pechora Sea. According to the words of the specialists of the center, the project of the drilling vessel foresees several technical novelties for more effective work in ice conditions. The ship has double system of fixation on a point of drilling. It allows keeping it stably at the height of waves up to 6 meters, the speed of wind up to 15 meters per second and the speed of current up to 1.5 meters per second. The following opportunity is foreseen: independent navigation of the vessel in consolidated one-year arctic ices at their thickness up to 1.4 meters in winter-spring navigation and up to 1.7 meters in summer-autumn navigation – at episodic ramming of ice links. Navigation in the channel behind an icebreaker in one-year arctic ices up to 2 meters in summer-spring season and up to 3.2 meters in summer-autumn season is possible, as "Arktika-Info" informs.
