The governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Artyukhov participated in the sitting of the Council of heads of subjects of the Russian Federation under the Ministry of foreign affairs chaired by acting Minister Sergey Lavrov. Prospects and mechanisms of international municipal cooperation were the topic of the Council.

According Dmitry Artyukhov, Yamal is a territory of international business cooperation. Companies from France, Germany, Austria, China and other European and Asian countries work in the region.

“Not only successfully implemented economic projects, but also projects in social sphere are the results of cooperation. In spring a 200-seat kindergarten built in partnership with the German company Wintershall will be opened in Noviy Urengoy. It is built on the parity basis: 50% - the company, 50% - the municipality. But most importantly, the colleagues accompany the educational process methodologically. This is an inclusive kindergarten that will be visited by children with health problems. The employees, who will work there, were trained in Germany”, the governor said.

He also notes that ecological projects of Yamal arouse interest of young people all over the world. Volunteers from 12 countries participated in expeditions to clean Beliy and Vilkitsky Islands.

In his report, Dmitry Artyukhov spoke about twin-city relations of Yamal towns. For example, Noviy Urengoy has been cooperating with German Kassel for more than 15 years. It allows exchanging experience in the areas of urban development, education, landscaping and business development.

The head of the region also said that this spring Salekhard would host a major international event – the V Forum of young leaders of the SCO and BRICS member states. More than 150 delegates are expected to attend, 60 of them from foreign countries. In addition, the application to host the Arctic Winter Games in Yamal is being considered currently. The governor thanked the Ministry of foreign affairs for support of the application. Last year representatives of the Arctic Winter Games Committee visited Salekhard. The final decision will be announced in spring, as the press service of the head of Yamal reports.
