Atomflot will continue tourist cruises to the North Pole
This year Atomflot will continue the program of tourist excursions to the North Pole, as the press-service of the company informs. Icebreakers will continue transporting travelers to coasts of the Arctic, at least, till 2018.
As the deputy director general on exploitation of the fleet Andrey Smirnov tells, repairing work on the nuclear-powered icebreaker "Sovetsky Soyuz" will be completed in 2016 and not in 2017 as it was planned before. Thus, one more ship will appear. It will allow using the icebreaker "50 Let Pobedy" for cruises in July-August of 2016-2018. Atomflot has fulfilled cruises to the North Pole since 1990. Tourists were brought to the Arctic on board of the nuclear-powered icebreakers "Rossiya", "Sovetsky Soyuz" and "Yamal". After input of the nuclear-powered icebreaker "50 Let Pobedy" to operation in 2007 such travels are fulfilled only on its board. A cruise lasts during about 10 days; the cost is about 30 thousand dollars. In summer of 2014 the icebreaker "50 Let Pobedy" fulfilled five tourist cruises in the Arctic. 500 people went to the polar cruises during this time.
