Bovanenkovo field is being started up in full production capacity on the 18th of January
The ceremony of startup of Bovanenkovo gas condensate field of “Gazprom” to project capacity is taking place in Yamal on the 18th of January.
It is planned that the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will participate in the ceremony in the videoconference mode and will give a command to start up the largest field of the country. The chairman of the board of Gazprom Aleksey Miller and the governor of Yamal Dmitry Kobylkin will be present personally in Bovanenkovo field. Bovanenkovo field was discovered by a group of geologists under the leadership of Vadim Bovanenko in 1971. The field is located on the western periphery of the central part of the Yamal Peninsula, near the Seyakha River. By its reserves (4 trillion and 900 milliard cubic meters) it belongs to the category of unique. The license for development belongs to the affiliated enterprise of Gazprom, OOO “Gazprom dobycha Nadym”. The project amount of gas production in Bovanenkovo gas field is estimated in 115 milliard cubic meters per year with the prospect of increase up to 140 milliard cubic meters. Development of the field is conducted within the “Yamal megaproject”, which supposes integrated industrial development of hydrocarbon fields of the Yamal Peninsula and adjoining arctic waters. The project of the program was developed by Gazprom together with the authorities of Yamal in 2002. Now the field has a complete system of industrial life support with industrial bases, roads, power plants and a settlement for workers. Unified production infrastructure for extraction of gas from Cenomanian (the depth 520 - 700 meters) and Apt-Alb (1200 - 2000 meters) deposits was used for the first time in Russia in Bovanenkovo. This approach gives significant economizing of funds in construction and increases efficiency of exploitation of the field. There is high level of automation of technological processes in the field. In order to preserve the unique nature of Yamal the method of low temperature separation and vapor-liquid heat stabilizers are used to prepare gas for transportation as well as insulated pipes for wells, which reduce impact on permafrost, are used for extraction. The railroad line Obskaya - Bovanenkovo with the length 572 kilometers was built specifically for development of fields of Yamal. The world’s longest bridge (3.9 km) was built on the Yuribey River. The first line of the system of trunk pipelines Bovanenkovo – Ukhta was started up together with the field. The system connects the peninsula through the underwater passage across the Baydaratskaya Bay with the unified gas supply system of Russia and the export pipeline “Nord stream”. After startup of the second line the project capacity of the gas transportation corridor will reach 140 milliard cubic meters per year. In the future it is planned to connect Kharasaveyskoye and Kruzenshternskoye fields. The government of Yamal and the Russian Railways signed the agreement on joint fulfillment of the project “Northern latitudinal railway” last October to ensure access to oil and gas resources of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. According to the document, for the first time in Russia construction of railways will take place under the concession scheme with attracting of private investors. “Northern latitudinal railway” and building of the railroad line Bovanenkovo – Sabetta are considered the key part of the Yamal project “Energy of Arctic”. “Northern latitudinal railway” should help companies and regions to come to additional sale markets in Europe and Asia. The participants of the project are: the government of Yamal, Russian Railways, Gazprom and investors. The project documentation was elaborated for construction of the bridge across the Ob River, the railroad section Salekhard – Nadym and also two railroad lines to the right and to the left approaches of the bridge across the Ob River.
