Children of tundra people are going home for summer vacation

3960 children of indigenous peoples study in boarding schools of Yamal. They spend summer vacation at home with their parents in tundra and fishing districts.

Pupils of the boarding school of Salekhard went home, starting with April: about 50 children are already at home. In Nadymskiy district children from the boarding school of the settlement Nyda started coming back home to reindeer-herding brigades and nomadic camps. 80 children will help their parents at home, mastering skills of traditional way of life. They will be transported to 7 reindeer herding brigades and nomadic camps near the rivers. In Muravlenko 36 pupils of the boarding school also went home. A helicopter transported them to native land. The nomadic camps are situated in the radius 110 kilometers from the town. Children will stay at home during the whole summer, and in autumn they will come back to school to continue their education. As Grigory Lymar, the head of the office of regional development at the department of education of Yamal notes, if to the first of September bodies of the power organize coordinated gathering of children to school, then in April-June not only pedagogues but also parents and relatives take them home by all kinds of transport. Absence of debts in studies is the main condition of sending children home with their parents before the official date of going home.
