Excavations on Mameev Cape will fill in the gaps in history of settling in Tazovskiy district
The head of Tazovskiy district Alexander Ivanov conducted the meeting with the head of the sector of archeology of the Institute of Problems of Development of the North of the Siberian Branch of the RAS, doctor of historical sciences Alexander Tkachev and the director of the district museum of local lore Roman Berladin, who had come back from the archeological excavations in the district of Mameev Cape.
The participants of the group told about the achieved results of the expedition and further plans on study of ancient burial places. This year three groups worked: ethnographers, anthropologists and archeologists. Researching several objects, the archeologists found 16 burial places, two dwellings and also an ancient cemetery. As Alexander Tkachev notes, these results are remarkable. Probably, a sacred place, which can become an interesting discovery for the scientists, is situated near this cape. In the opinion of Alexander Tkachev, during the ancient time Mameev Cape was the center of life on the territory of Tazovskiy district. 6 archeological objects were found in this sector. In 2013 a group of archeologists, for the first time arriving to research the camp of Mameev (the note: a merchant Mameev) and the sacred place of Gaz-Salye-2, found a burial place dated with the 10th-12th centuries AD. The head of the group of archeologists tells that study of this local territory for new findings is undisputable interest for the scientists. At that same time, the work is complicated with influence of environment: vegetation covers the surface of the ground completely, soil is subjected to permafrost and thawing and movable enough. Alexander Ivanov is interested in further study of the territory. New excavations will help to fill in the gaps in history of settling in Tazovskiy district in the ancient time. The scientists want to investigate the locality in the district of the Yuribey River. Alexander Ivanov entrusted the future curators of the project, Alexander Tkachev and Roman Berladin, to elaborate the effective plan of work for the coming three years, as it is informed on the portal tasu.ru.
