Exercises on prevention and liquidation of oil spills took place in the Arctic

Before the forum “The Arctic – Territory of Dialogue” the head of the Ministry for environment of Russia Sergey Donskoy conducted the comprehensive interdepartmental exercises “Arctic 2017” on prevention and liquidation of oil spills.

The largest extracting companies “Gazprom Neft”, “Gazprom Neft shelf”, “LUKOIL” and “Rosneft” under supervision of Rosprirodnadzor (the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage) participated in the exercises. Among the participants there are: the Ministry for emergency situations of Russia, the administrations of Murmansk Oblast and Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the company “Sovcomflot” and the Marine rescue service of Rosmorrechflot (the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport). The following situations were successfully tested within the exercises: the response to the oil spill with the amount in five thousand cubic meters in the area of fixed marine platform “Prirazlomnaya”, protection of the coastal strip near the village of Varandey from oil pollution, as the press service of the Arctic forum informs. The specialists were able to inspect the level of training and skills of subdivisions of the extracting companies on preventions and liquidation of oil spills, and also testing of their operational cooperation. It is possible to say that all the companies working on the Arctic shelf, show the very high level of training, as Sergey Donskoy says. According to him, now the authorities and business have all opportunities to build the economic model of Arctic exploration with use of modern technologies, attention to human and fragile environment.
