Film directors from different countries are sending applications for participation in the Arctic film festival
More than 100 applications from different regions of Russia and other countries came to the first international film festival of the Arctic countries “Arctic Open”. It will take place from the 7th to the 9th of December on the platform of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University.
The applications were received not only from northern territories of our country but also from other regions. As for other countries, the biggest number of applications came from Canada, Norway, Finland and the USA. However, geography of the contest is not limited with the polar countries, film directors from Colombia, India, Italy and Great Britain sent their films for the festival. Documentary films make a half of ones received for the contest. For example, the film from Saint-Petersburg “GESLO. “The disappeared” expedition” by Vladimir Nepevny. As the basis the film director took the diaries of the expedition, which in 1910 – 1915 discovered the Severnaya Zemlya and was the first to go along the Northern Sea Route from the East to the West. This is one of the brightest and the most little-known pages in history of the Russian Arctic. Acceptance of the works will be completed on the 1st of October, as the press-center of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University informs. According to the program director of the festival “Arctic Open”, the film director and the manager of the media center of NARFU “Arctic bridge” Angelica Dolinina, at least 150 applications are being expected. It is planned that the short-list will include about 45 works of Russian and foreign film directors. Then the main contest jury of the festival will define winners. The audience will be able to evaluate the level of the films included to the contest demonstration within the film festival in Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk from the 7th to the 9th of December. Creative meetings with film directors, filmmakers and also master classes will be available to everyone. As we should remind, the first international film festival of the Arctic countries “Arctic Open” received a grant of the President of Russia and support of the Ministry for culture of Arkhangelsk region. The initiative of its conducting belongs to the Pomor cultural foundation “Bereginya”.
