For the first time the arctic ice is connected to the Internet

Russian troopers are conducting the training search and rescue operation on evacuation of polar explorers in the district of the station "Barneo". The soldiers of the Russian Airborne Troops together with cargo platforms landed on a drifting ice floe in the Arctic Ocean for the first time in the world.

Construction of the base camp for organizing of rest, cooking of hot food, preparation of equipment and outfit for fulfillment of important tasks has been recently completed in the circumpolar district of the Arctic. By the information given by an official representative of the Russian Airborne Troops, lieutenant-colonel Yevgeniy Meshkov, specialists of communication organized the mobile unit, which provided the subdivision with stable cosmic communication and access to the Internet. As we should remind, the drifting ice floes were researched from the air before the unique landing. An aircraft of the military and transport aviation flew around the coast and water area of the Barents Sea, Franz Joseph Land and the central part of the Arctic Ocean. The soldiers of the Russian Airborne Troops landed near the polar station "Barneo", which is opened every spring on the 89th degree of northern latitude, approximately in 100 kilometers from the North Pole. Training in the Arctic, the soldiers will test new outfit for expeditions purposed for very low temperatures. The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Airborne Troops Vladimir Shamanov notes that nobody else in the world jumps with a parachute in such difficult conditions for human organism.
