Gas of Urengoy is for the country! It took 41 years from the first cubic meters to 7 trillion

The 22nd of April is an important date in history of the company “Gazprom dobycha Urengoy”. On this day in 1978 the first industrial gas of Urengoy was delivered from a complex gas treatment plant (UKPG-1) of the enterprise.

Commissioning of UKPG-1 marked the beginning of development of the unique Urengoyskoye oil, gas, condensate field. At the end of March this year the total production of “Gazprom dobycha Urengoy” reached the record 7 trillion cubic meters of natural gas from subsoil of Big Urengoy. No other company in the world has ever extracted such amount from a single extractive field.

It is impossible to imagine today’s achievements without looking back in the past. The first piles at the site of the future gas field №1 were hammered in April of 1977, and assemblage of technological equipment was started on the first plant already in summer. A serious task, and then it seemed impossible, was set for the collective. During only a year, instead of three years, according to the standards, they had to build and start up work of the complex gas treatment plant with life-support infrastructure in the extractive field. This information was given to the news agency “Sever-Press” in service on public relations and communication with mass media of “Gazprom dobycha Urengoy”.

“On the 22nd of April in 1978, on the birthday of V. I. Lenin, gas workers of Urengoy reported on the early commissioning of the first UKPG of the enterprise”. So the historical event is described in the corporate book “Records of Big Urengoy”. “Natural gas from the world’s largest Urengoyskoye field began its way along steel pipes to the center of the country. Thus, the launch of the first plant marked the beginning of arrangement of Urengoyskoye field and creation of the largest gas production complex”.
