The photo exhibition about the Arctic was opened on Tsvetnoy Boulevard in Moscow. It was organized by Rosneft together with the non-governmental Institute for development “Innopraktika”.

The exhibition includes unique images from the Atlas “Russian Arctic. Space. Time. Resources”, which is a joint project of Rosneft and Innopraktika, as well as photos of the seasonal research expeditions of Rosneft “Kara-Winter” and “Kara-Summer”. Visitors can see majestic ice landscapes, amazing wildlife, biodiversity of underwater ecosystems in the Arctic, large-scale polar research. The exhibition will last till the 15th of January, as the office of information policy of Rosneft informs.

Rosneft is the largest subsoil user of the Russian Arctic shelf. The company conducts complex research expeditions, the largest ones since the Soviet times - “Kara-summer” and “Kara-winter”. Over the past 7 years Rosneft conducted more than 20 expeditions along the entire coast of the Arctic Ocean and collected a unique layer of information about the Arctic region. During the expedition “Kara-summer-2017” the company’s specialists performed towing of an iceberg weighing 1 million 100 thousand tonnes for the first time in Russia. In the course of the expedition new data were obtained on living organisms – biological indicators of the state of Arctic ecosystems, as well as on populations of animals standing at the top of the food chain of northern nature — walruses and polar bears.

The Arctic project for Rosneft is not only development of hydrocarbon fields, but also a clear, well thought-out program for protection of polar ecosystems. For that aim the scientists perform a complex of biological and ecological studies. The company pays special attention to rare and protected species, including ones listed in the Red Book. In order to improve the accuracy of weather forecasts Rosneft supports the state initiative on restoration of the network of hydro-meteorological observations in seas of the Russian Arctic. The company set 8 autonomic weather stations and organized work of the scientific supporting base on the coast of the Khatanga Bay of the Laptev Sea. For safe development of the Arctic shelf the Russian scientists developed a unique biological product that can decompose oil and petroleum products at low temperatures.

This year Rosneft together with “Innopraktika” released the Atlas “Russian Arctic. Space. Time. Resources”. The materials collected in it are a useful tool for specialists in various industries, scientists and enthusiasts passionate about the North. Rosneft and Innopraktika are also implementing the project on development and publishing of a series of atlases of the Russian Arctic seas. The ecological atlases “The Kara Sea”, “The Laptev Sea” and “Marine mammals of the Russian Arctic and the Far East” have already been released. They summarize the results of scientific research.
