In August volunteers from Russia, Bulgaria, Germany and Israel will be cleaning Beliy Island

The acting governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitriy Kobylkin signed the decree about organizing of the ecological expedition to Beliy Island.

The document contains the approved plans of activities on cleaning of the island and the list of responsible persons, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs. The expedition will take place from the 1st to the 21st of August.

The group of the volunteers already includes 12 people representing regions of Russia and also Bulgaria, Germany and Israel. All of them participated in the expeditions to Beliy Island in different years. Other 6 people will be delegated from one of the basic sponsors of ecological activities in 2015 – the company "LUKOIL – Western Siberia". Besides, two places stay vacant. The forum "UTRO" will take place in June in Tyumen. The organization "Green Arctic" will supervise the platform "The Arctic Urals". Its representatives will choose two active young people for participation in the expedition. Trainings for the volunteers will take place in the end of July in the mountains of the Polar Urals. Specialists of "Green Arctic" will organize them. On Beliy Island the volunteers should finish cleaning of the territory of the hydro-meteorological stations named after Mikhail Popov and the former military unit. The volunteers will start cleaning other less dirty places that situated in the depth of the island. In the beginning of April specialists of the Russian center for exploration of the Arctic delivered special machinery, equipment, fuel and everything necessary for the summer expedition. Now they are on the island and busy with depreservation and improvement of residential accommodations, adjustment of special equipment and machinery for conducting of work, preparation of collected metal scraps for transportation from the island by water transport. The ecological activities on Beliy Island are fulfilled exclusively on money of the sponsors without participation of the budget of Yamal. This year the companies "Yamal LNG", "LUKOIL – Western Siberia", "Transneft" render basic support to the project. As we should note, the first ecological expedition to Beliy Island was organized in 2012. Fifty hectares of lands were cleaned on the island during 3 years. About 700 tons of metal scraps were collected, and more than 360 tons were transported from the island. A part was sent for recycling. All revenues were allocated to the charitable fund "Yamine". Last year the ecological project was recognized the winner of the international contest "Ecological culture. Peace and Conciliation" in the nomination on preservation of biological diversity and improvement of landscapes.
