Preservation of population of the snowy owl in the Arctic was discussed in Salekhard within the international scientific and practical conference. Scientists from different countries are anxious about decreasing in the number of these birds living in tundra of Eurasia, North America, Greenland, on islands of the Arctic Ocean.

The snowy owl is a weakly studied species, in Russia the last researches were conducted 30 years ago. How many snowy owls live in Russia, how they migrate, how technogenic factor influences on their population – specialists cannot give a precise answer. Meanwhile, these birds of prey play one of key roles in the ecological system of tundra. The participants of the meeting shared the new data received during the latest years at studying of population of the snowy owl in the Arctic. By the information given to a correspondent of IA "Sever-Press" by an employee of the nature reserve "Wrangel Island" Irina Minyushina, practically all scientists of the world busy with this issue gathered in Salekhard on the conference. Many of them are busy with wildlife protection, and this is already a task of the planetary scale.
