In the United Nations Organization the delegation of Yamal will discuss projects on support of indigenous peoples

By the invitation of the Federal Agency for Affairs of Nationalities of the Russian Federation from the 16th to the 19th of April the official delegation of Yamal is participating in the plenary session and the dialogue platform of the XVII session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on indigenous issues.

In total about 500 delegates of different countries representing official bodies of the power of states and indigenous peoples are participating in the event. The delegation of Yamal will present its unique experience in the United Nations Organization. The following topics will be presented: “Preservation and development of languages of indigenous peoples of the North in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug” and “Collective rights of indigenous peoples for lands, territories and resources”. Also it is planned that the representatives of Yamal will participate in the additional activity of the Russian delegation. The participants will discuss socially significant projects on support of sustainable development of indigenous peoples, including in spheres of healthcare and social services, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs. As we should note, the United Nations Permanent Forum for indigenous issues is the most serious platform for discussion of important issues of indigenous peoples connected with economic and social development, culture, environment, education, healthcare and human rights respect. According to the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Kobylkin, ensuring of guarantees and rights of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North is a priority direction of regional policy. The region is the leader in this issue. Other territories take an example from Yamal. “It is pleasant that by the results of the year it is possible to mark real progress of our joint work”, as Dmitry Kobylkin notes. Bringing in changes that allow nomads to adopt children is among basic ones. It is a good example that there are no unsolvable tasks. If to work together, it is possible to receive the result. Dmitry Kobylkin noted this on the sitting of the Coordination council on sustainable development of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North in Yamal. Fulfillment of activities that assist to solving tasks in the sphere of protection of original environment and traditional lifestyle of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, their rights and legal interests, preservation of original culture, language and traditions is fulfilled in the region with use of the program and targeted method, within 11 state programs of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
