Mild winter and fine spring. Mass reindeer calving in Yamal was completed successfully

More than 100 thousand reindeer calves appeared in herds of enterprises in the region within mass reindeer calving. Such information was given to a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press” in the regional department of agro-industrial complex. The figure is preliminary. At that, it is possible to say already now that in general in the region reindeer calving took place well.

The executive director of the Union of reindeer herders of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Timur Akchurin received information about state of affairs in districts. Thus, in Tazovskiy and Yamalskiy districts the number of reindeer calves is the largest: at the level of 80% of the existing livestock. The situation in Priuralskiy and Shuryshkarskiy districts is a little more modest but within the norm: there reindeer herders speak about the number of reindeer calves at the level of 60%.

“This year meteorological conditions are favorable for nomads. The spring was without abrupt temperature fluctuations, pastures became free of snow during enough short time. There are no problems with feeds. Therefore, the number and preservation of reindeer calves will be good”, said Timur Akchurin.
