New aircrafts, airports and names. Aviators of Yamal are celebrating their professional holiday

Russian civil aviation began its history with the resolution “On organizing of the Council for civil aviation”, which was issued on the 9th of February, 1923. The document launched the work of the structure, which provided people with passenger and cargo transportations by air. Today civil aviation also performs sanitary flights, search and rescue operations, delivery of humanitarian aid. Work of civil aviation is very important in Yamal with its vast distances and growing road network.

10 airports operate in the region. 7 of them receive and send passengers, cargoes and mail within and outside the region. Departmental airports of Bovanenkovo, Yamburg and Sabetta provide cargo and crew transportations. The region is expanding its fleet of aircrafts of domestic production, is actively developing ultra-light aviation. Work on reconstruction of the airport of Noviy Urengoy is taking place. The investor will build the new air terminal building, modernize the runway and will provide the airport with telescopic ladders and passengers with services at the level of international standards. As a result, the airport’s capacity will increase from the current figure of 150-200 people per hour to 800 people. The air harbor will be able to accept all types of medium-haul passenger aircrafts. The period of reconstruction of the airport is 3.5 years.

Last year Yamal expanded the list of socially significant directions being subsidized from the regional budget. Routes from Salekhard and Noviy Urengoy to Simferopol and from the towns Nadym, Noyabrsk and Noviy Urengoy to Krasnodar will be added to subsidized flights in Yamal since May of 2019. Now passengers can fly directly, not through hub airports, it became easier to plan their vacation and business trips. Sale of tickets at reduced tariffs will be started in February.

As we should note, in the 2018 transportations by air vehicles were fulfilled on 25 inter-municipal and 21 interregional subsidized directions. In total 2810 flights were fulfilled, and 195 thousand passengers were transported, of them 1432 flights and 53 thousand passengers - within the region, 1378 flights and 142 thousand passengers – beyond its limits.

This year increase in the number of passengers by 20 thousand people is expected in Yamal in comparison to last year in connection with opening of new air routes. It is expected that this year 41 thousand passengers will use inter-municipal routes, almost 239 thousand people -interregional. Today ticket sales for all destinations from 30 to 90 days in advance are open.
