Not only nomads risk losing their language. Scientists strive for preservation
The round table was held in Salekhard on the 6th of February. The results of the International year of indigenous languages were summed up at the sitting. Dmitry Frolov, the director of the scientific center for study of the Arctic explained that the working group had been created at the event. The participants discussed the resolution formed at the conference “Yamal humanitarian readings” in November 2019.
“Sincere efforts of young scientists in the sphere of language preservation should be combined, in order next year the conference will be able to touch upon the most topical and important issues, about which representatives of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North are concerned”, Dmitry Frolov said.
In particular, the resolution of the conference outlined insufficiency in study of only languages of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, it was recommended to pay attention not only on culture of nomadic population, but residents of towns and settlements from among indigenous ethnic minorities of the North. According to Dmitry Frolov, preservation of national identity in conditions of the global world is a world problem.
“Preservation of their own language, not to mention languages of indigenous ethnic minorities, remains relevant in any small European countries. Even large nations are losing their languages. It happens that the national speech makes sense only before departure to other countries. We are part of the global world and do not stay away from solving of those important issues”, said the director of the scientific center for study of the Arctic.
The participants of the round table also discussed the issue of publishing of the magazine “Scientific Bulletin of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug”, which was founded by the scientific center for study of the Arctic. Since this year the course has been taken for the entry of the Bulletin into the register of magazines recommended for publication by the Higher Attestation Commission, in order research materials by candidates and doctors of science would be published in it. The lion’s share of the edition will be dedicated to two major areas - history and archaeology, which will also include ethnology, ethnography and the theory of cultural history.
