Over 4000 years. An ancient burial place of the Copper Age was discovered in Salekhard

Archaeologists continue scientific research in the town garden of Salekhard located in the central part of the place of interest of regional significance “The territory of the village of Obdorsk of XVIII-XIX”. First the discovered artifacts confirmed the previously established dating - the epoch of the late Middle Ages.

But an ancient burial place of the Eneolithic time (the Copper Age) with unique inventory was found on the 31st of July at the depth of about 1.5 meters. This burial place is aged more than four thousand years - a rarity for the entire circumpolar zone, what clearly increases its historical and cultural value for scientists and history of the regional capital. The excavations are being fulfilled by the scientific development and production center “Northern archaeology-1” from Nefteyugansk on the basis of an instruction from the service on state protection of cultural heritage of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Archaeological work in the town garden of Salekhard is being fulfilled within the state historical and cultural expert examination of land plots subjected to economic development. It is conducted before work on reconstruction and improvement of the territory of the garden.
