People of Yamal are participating in the congress of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East

The congress of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation is taking place in Saint-Petersburg. Delegations from 15 regions of the country - elders, activists of public associations of indigenous peoples, representatives of youth organizations - are participating in it.

The president of the regional public movement of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North "Yamal is for descendants" Edman Nerkagi and a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, the vice-president of the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East Valery Yeleskin are participating in the action from Yamal. Besides, the region is being represented by deputies of the Legislative Assembly of Yamal, employees of the regional department on affairs of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North and the representational office of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Saint-Petersburg. The 16th international scientific and practical conference "Reality of ethnos. Education – culture – economy in sustainable development of the Russian Federation" is an important component of the congress. Also it is planned to conduct the plenary session, round tables, sittings. During two days of work the participants will give an assessment to situation of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East in Russia, will discuss problems and contradictions in development of ethno-regional, cultural-educational and socioeconomic space, preservation of languages and cultures of indigenous ethnic minorities, will mark basic prospective tasks for next year of work. The president of the association, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Grigory Ledkov will speak on his report "Protection of interests and providing of life quality is the basis of sustainable development of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation. By the information given in the press-service of the governor of Yamal, the participants suppose to pay basic attention to analysis of modern arctic policy of Russia, its cultural-educational paradigm, processes of modernization in culture and education. As we should note, the congress is being conducted within the Year of culture of Russia.
