“Polar Spirit” is waiting for the brave, courageous and creative

Receiving of applications for participation in the international meet up of volunteers “Polar Spirit” was launched in Yamal. This year the event will be held in 2 shifts: the first will take place in the format of a social hackathon of projects, the second will start the selection for the regional volunteer group.

“Polar Spirit” is an international meet up of volunteers aimed at search for leaders of the volunteer movement, support and implementation of initiatives. The project has been implemented since 2018 on an island on the Sob River near the Rai-Iz mountain range of the Polar Urals.

The first shift is scheduled from the 3rd to the 7th of August in five directions: “Sociology of the Arctic”, “Urban studies of northern cities”, “Ecology and biosphere of the Arctic”, “Development of creative potential of the region” and “Media Projects”.

Developed projects ready for implementation on the territory of the region will be the result of the first shift. Curators from the Arctic center for volunteering will be assigned to the project teams in each of these areas. The invited experts will inspire the authors of initiatives and will share professional secrets, and the coaches of the educational program will teach to nuances of project management.

The second shift will take place from the 10th to the 14th of August and will bring together bright representatives of the volunteer movement in the region and Russia. Working on the island in extreme conditions reveals potential of a person in the shortest possible time, clearly demonstrates abilities of self-organization, leadership qualities, an ability to work in a team and to work together to achieve a common goal. The participants, who will show themselves most brightly in “Polar Spirit”, will be invited to join the team of the regional volunteer group and participate in major events of Yamal.

According to the regional department of youth policy and tourism, about two tens of applications have already been received in the first two days. Special physical training is not required.
