Population of muksun and taimen will be restored in Yamal

Fish breeding will become one of the main directions of production in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

This information was given by the head of the region Dmitriy Kobylkin on the press-conference in the joint press-center of the news agencies “Interfax-Ural” and “Tyumenskaya Linia”. As he notes, during the coming 5 years it is planned to be busy with aqua-culture actively. This direction is promising for Yamal, where on an average there is one lake per two inhabitants. In water reservoirs it is possible to breed whitefish and to sell it in Russia and to transport it abroad through the port of Sabetta. As Dmitriy Kobylkin adds, fishermen of Yamal started test fishing in the Kara Sea – the saffron cod, the arctic cisco, and the northern flounder. It is possible to catch the crab here, but not in industrial amounts. The plant on reproduction of fish counted on 110 million fingerlings started its work in the settlement Kharp. According to the words of Dmitriy Kobylkin, it will help to restore population of muksun in Yamal during 7-8 years. The plant was built in the foothills, on the clean river. The money was allocated by the company “NOVATEK”. This is compensation for damage done in the district of the port of Sabetta. First, the plant was planned for 40 million fingerlings. But experience of Norway was studied in the process, this technology was borrowed, and it became clear that it needed to increase the number of fingerlings in order the plant would recoup itself. The following thing is the most difficult: to make so that fish breeding stock would not leave but would stay on water territories of Yamal, as Dmitriy Kobylkin says. Also the plant will be busy with reproduction of taimen – the precious species of northern fish demanded on the world market. It is planned to grow fingerlings in Kharp and in natural reserves of Krasnoselkoup district. As Dmitriy Kobylkin adds, several activists of Yamal purchased fish breeding enterprises in the south of the region in order to unite interests of Yamal and Tyumen Oblast in this sphere.
