Reindeer byproducts are in demand in Germany. Opportunities are open for Yamal exports

German entrepreneurs need to accept 500 tonnes of reindeer byproducts, 100 tonnes of bone and 20 tonnes of animal blood from Yamal in 2021. Yuriy Yermolayev, the director general of the exporting company “Sibirskiy Olen” (Siberian deer) confirms to a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press” that such negotiations with the German company are being held, and he considers the prospects good.

However, the question now is whether Yamal will be able to provide these deliveries. The products of only two enterprises of Yamal – “Yamalskiye Oleni” (Yamal Reindeer) and “Payuta” meet international requirements, but their capacities are not yet sufficient to meet the request from the foreign partners. Specialists of “Sibirskiy Olen” hope on the enterprises of Yamal, which are close to achievement of European standards. These are, for example, complexes in Tazovskiy and Antipayuta, “Vozrozhdenie” in Nadymskiy district.

As it should be reminded, the company “Sibirskiy Olen” specializing in export of reindeer-herding products became a resident of Yamal last year, being re-registered in Salekhard. Yuriy Yermolayev notes that he considers doing business in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug comfortable, reliable and promising.

In April the company for the first time delivered to Germany 15 tonnes of reindeer byproducts - so-called slaughterhouse offal received within venison purveyance. It was the first experience for reindeer herding regions of Russia on delivery of such products abroad. Lungs, trachea and other reindeer byproducts that are not suitable for food use by human are considered as slaughterhouse offal. But, according to Yuriy Yermolayev, that raw material, including blood and bones of deer, is very much in demand for production of premium food for dogs and cats, especially those suffering from allergies.
