Russian, Japanese and Canadian companies will build the fleet for "Yamal LNG"
The company "Yamal LNG" formed the short-list of shipping companies, which will transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the South-Tambey field and also will build ships for transportation of fuel. These are: Russian Sovkomflot, Japanese Mitsui and Canadian Teekay LNG, as ITAR-TASS informs.
The chosen companies will build the fleet for "Yamal LNG", which will consist of 16 ships of ice class Arc7. The total cost of the contract with "Yamal LNG" for transportation of gas can reach 5 milliard dollars. It is possible that the three companies will receive the right for transportation of LNG from the South-Tambey field and all the three will build the fleet for "Yamal LNG". "Yamal LNG" started selecting a carrier of liquefied gas in autumn of 2012, and last year the company chose a shipyard, on which a production prototype of a gas carrier will be built. This is the Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). Winners of the tender will build gas carriers also there. All the shipping companies, which are included into the short-list, have experience of transportation of liquefied natural gas: Mitsui OSK – 18 gas carriers, Teekay LNG – 29 and Sovkomflot – 9. And only the Russian company has experience of transportations on the Northern Sea Route (not gas, but other cargoes).
