Russian scientists are researching birds on Beliy Island and the Yuribey River
Two groups of Russian scientists – the participants of the expedition "Yamal-Arctic 2014" started field work on Beliy Island and in the district of the Yuribey River.
This information was given to a correspondent of IA "Sever-Press" in the press-service of the governor of Yamal. The basic task of the researches this year is to study birds. The head of the first group is a scientific employee of Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sofia Rosenfeld. They will study state of population of geese and barnacle geese on the territory of the Yuribey River and also peculiarities of their migration. At the same time the group of the researchers under the leadership of a scientific employee of the biological faculty of Moscow State University Alexander Dmitriyev will conduct field work on Beliy Island and will elaborate recommendations on monitoring of ornithological fauna, the polar bear, population of the reindeer, the arctic fox and other animals. Help on delivery of equipment and transportation of the expedition groups to the places of the field work were rendered by the Federation of ultralight aviation of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the department of international and external economic relations of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. As we should remind, "Yamal-Arctic" is the integrated arctic scientific and research expedition. It has been conducted in the region already for three years. In the course of field work the scientists collect different information about natural environment of Yamal.
