Satellite equipment in Yamal for nomadic population

Satellite equipment purchased last year is being set on trading stations in Yamalskiy district. Specialists are adjusting communication and teaching employees of trading stations to work with it. Satellite internet and the opportunity to make an emergency call exist in a row of trading stations today.

In parallel, work on providing families of tundra-dwellers residing on remote territories with satellite telephones is being conducted. Indigenous people of Yamal from hard-to-reach areas of the region, where there is no mobile communication, received 744 sets of satellite telephones. Till the end of 2018 it is planned to give other 286 telephones to families and brigades of reindeer herders. The telephones have been already purchased. According to the press-service of the governor of Yamal, all this equipment is given to indigenous population for free. Thus, till the end of the year 1030 nomadic families in Yamal (each third family) will be provided with satellite telephone communication at the expenses of the regional budget. 20 million rubles were allocated from the regional budget this year to purchase the equipment. Purchase of vouchers to replenish balance on a personal account is also provided with financing. Each voucher is calculated for 250 minutes of talk. At that, an alarm button will work even at negative balance. In a case of necessity all emergency services will receive a signal from the alarm button with coordinates of a call location. It is foreseen for immediate response to an emergency situation in any point of the vast tundra of Yamal and for rendering of necessary help to tundra-dwellers. It is important that the big number of telephones is connected to the system of satellite monitoring of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The system functions in normal mode, showing location of owners of telephones. On an average about 200 emergency messages about accidents, natural emergencies and other are received during a half-year. As we should note, experience of providing nomads in Yamal with devices of satellite communication is actively used in northern regions of Russia and foreign countries.
