Scientists of Yamal and Finland will evaluate risks for preservation and development of deer husbandry
The director of the scientific center for study of the Arctic Svyatoslav Alekseev, the senior researcher of the establishment Andrey Plekhanov and the director of the interregional expedition center "Arktika" (Arctic) Konstantin Oschepkov are in the town Rovaniemi in Finland.
They are meeting with the director of the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland Paula Kankaanpaa; they will participate in the seminar dedicated to startup of the project "HUMANOR" (the research project on Human-Animal relations under climate change in Northern Eurasia), to fulfillment of which scientists of Yamal were invited. This information was given to IA "Sever-Press" in the press-service of the governor of Yamal. The Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland and the scientific center for study of the Arctic have cooperated since 2012. Together they conducted integrated researches of the medieval monument Yarte-6 on the Yuribey River in Yamal. New knowledge about ecological history of the peninsula, development of nomadic reindeer husbandry were received, they learnt how adaptation of people and animals to new conditions had changed under climate changing. The new project "HUMANOR" being started up by the Arctic Center at the University of Lapland also will be dedicated to study of interaction between people and animals in conditions of climate change, influence of social and ecological factors on preservation of traditional economy. The international team of researchers will conduct qualitative analysis of socioeconomic systems in different geographic regions of the Arctic and will evaluate risks for preservation and development of modern deer husbandry.
