Scientists of Yamal will solve specific regional tasks

The scientific and practical conference “Obdoria: history, culture, modernity” dedicated to ecology of the Arctic and socio-cultural development of the Russian North was opened on the 14th of November in Salekhard.

The conference was opened by the first deputy governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Aleksey Sitnikov. As he declares, the government of Yamal requires for serious intellectual accompanying in fulfillment of projects the most important for the Russian Arctic. They are: the plant “Yamal LNG”, the seaport of Sabetta, the Northern Latitudinal Railway, startup of new oil and gas fields and objects of infrastructure. Aleksey Sitnikov reminds that the governor of Yamal set the specific task – not a single step would be taken without scientific recommendations. Specialists wait that science will help to build the system of economic and social forecasting of industrial development of the arctic territory, as the first deputy head of the region says. The order will be formed from the side of departments, bodies of the executive power and productive forces for conducting of scientific and research work, on rendering of grant support. “The road map” on increase in effectiveness of reindeer husbandry can be called an example of such cooperation. Scientists of Yamal together with big science will conduct researches directed to receiving of objective information about state of the branch and forecasts of its development. They will study opportunities and mechanisms that allow making reindeer husbandry an effective and balanced economic system. The director of the department on science and innovations of Yamal Aleksey Titovskiy notes that attention in Yamal is focused on development of not fundamental but applied researches. They are vitally necessary for the region, look to the future and are dedicated to solving of specific regional tasks. These tasks are connected with ecological safety of the territory, prevention from social and other shocks. Aleksey Titovskiy notes that scientists understand necessity of fundamental researches in the Arctic, and they are ready to render logistic and material-technical assistance to domestic science. In particular, necessary machinery and equipment that allow reaching the most hard-to-reach places of Yamal, to organize a scientific camp provided with communication, are concentrated in the arsenal of the Interregional Expedition Center “Arctic”. Besides, work on creation of scientific and research stations equipped with everything necessary for life and work in field conditions will be continued. The head of the Ural territorial board of the Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations of Russia Igor Manzhurov tells that Yamal is one of not many regions of the country, which actively interact with the agency. The unique research station of the world level “Yerkuta” of the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology at the Ural Branch of the RAS operates on the territory of Yamal. Scientists of the Institute of History and Archaeology at the Ural branch of the RAS conduct their researches. The Institute of Industrial Ecology at the Ural branch of the RAS conducts ecological researches on Beliy Island. Effective scientific work is conducted in Yamal, and the task of the agency is to render any help to cooperation of regional and academic science, as Igor Manzhurov says.
