Scientists will define to what race the mummy of the boy from Zelyoniy Yar belongs
Scientists continue complex study of the mummified remains of the boy found in the archeological complex in Zelyoniy Yar last year.
This information was given to a correspondent of IA “Sever-Press” by a researcher of the center for study of the Arctic Alexander Gusev. He told about genetic researches being conducted this year by scientists of the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Seoul National University. Their basic task is to define to what race the child belonged. In parallel, the scientists conducted parasitological researches on revealing of tuberculosis and other diseases. Besides, the Korean colleagues suggested reconstructing the boy’s face and promised to present the results this year. Probably, they will be able to participate in the excavations in Zelyoniy Yar in 2017. This year 3D-scanning of the burial place was conducted. Three-dimensional models are necessary for scientists and people, who are interested in history and archeology. Scientists will be able to make measurements basing on these models; it will be possible to demonstrate them in museums and on exhibitions. European and American scientists use such method, as Alexander Gusev explains. The Institute of Experimental Medicine (specialists of molecular microbiology) is busy with other direction of study of the mummy. They also defined DNA of parasites - causative agents of infectious diseases. The scientists from Saint Petersburg and Moscow suggested the full scale project on study of the found anthropological collection and future collections for defining of DNA of parasites. In the opinion of Alexander Gusev, further study of the monument in Zelyoniy Yar will allow reconstructing medieval history of population of North Western Siberia.
