Tennis players from Yamal will go to the international tournament to Spain

A sportswoman from Yamal took the 3rd place in the rating international competitions in table tennis, which was completed in the Polish city of Vladislavovo. The strongest athletes in the world, who are seeking to get a ticket to the summer Paralympics in Tokyo, participated in the competition for the sport of persons with intellectual disabilities in the discipline “table tennis”.

In the individual competition 6 sportswomen reached the final: Maria Galkina (Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug), two representatives from China and from Turkey, and Angelika Kosacheva (Saratov region). Unfortunately, Maria lost one point to the Chinese sportswoman in the final set and eventually took the 5th place.

In the team event (doubles) Maria played with a representative of Saratov region, Angelika Kosacheva, and the athletes took the third place. The point in the decisive game with the athlete from Turkey was set by the sportswoman from Yamal Maria Galkina.

According to the information given to the news agency “Sever-Press” in the division for development of physical culture and mass sports under the regional department of physical culture and sports, the international tournament in Spain will be the next stage, where the world’s strongest tennis players will try to score rating points. The tournament will be held from the 3rd to the 9th of March. Two representatives of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug – students of Bakhtiyer Tuychiev, members of the Russian national team Maria Galkina and Alexander Yefremov are going to the tournament.

Maria Galkina is a sportswoman and instructor in the Yamal center for adaptive sports. The sportswoman is the repeated winner and medalist of all-Russian and international competitions and the bronze medalist of the European Championship in table tennis 2019.
