The age of methane. Gas will play a leading role in the energy sector of the future

The share of gas as a highly eco-friendly fuel in the energy sector of the future will grow. It was stated by the head of the Russian Ministry of energy Alexander Novak at the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit.

According to him, the share of renewable energy sources will also show growth. Now it is 2%, but “in the future Russia should reach 4-5% through construction of facilities with the capacity of 10 thousand megawatts”, the Minister underlined.

The share of gas in the energy structure will also grow, as minenergo.gov.ru informs. The groundwork for this growth is significant, in particular, in Yamal, where the plant “Yamal LNG” operates in full capacity. In the foreseeable future, construction of “Arctic LNG 2” with the capacity of 16 million and 500 thousand tonnes of liquefied gas will take place. Utrenneye field on the Gydan Peninsula is its resource base.
