The baby mammoth Lyuba is going to another hemisphere for six months

A find of Yamal – the baby mammoth Lyuba traditionally will become the main exhibit of the exposition “Mammoths: giants of the Ice Age”, which will take place from the 16th of November of 2017 to the 13th of May of 2018 in Sidney, Australia.

As we should remind, in 2010 the transportable exhibition “Mammoths and mastodons: titans of the Ice Age” was created by the initiative of the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, the USA. Its visitors learn about evolution of mammoths and their far ancestors – mastodons, specifics of their life and reasons of extinction. Exhibits from different museums of the USA and Europe are presented in the exhibition. However, the exhibit from funds of the Yamal-Nenets regional Museum and Exhibition complex of Ivan Shemanovskiy - the baby mammoth Lyuba became the key figure. The author of the project, professor of the University of Michigan, the head of the museum of paleontology from Ann Arbor – Daniel Fisher took active part in researching of the Yamal find. During 5 years of fulfillment of the project the exhibition was presented and seen in 11 towns of the USA, in the capital of Great Britain, London, in Vancouver, Canada. Big success of the exhibition allows continuing this unique project. According to the information given to a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press” in the information and analytical office of the museum, the exhibit of Yamal is being accompanied with audio and video materials. They help visitors to receive more complete vision of life-history of Lyuba and her relatives, tell about work of outstanding world scientists, who research mammoths and mastodons. The delegation of Yamal will go to Australia together with Lyuba. It includes the director of the department of culture of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Yevgeniy Koltunov, the director of the Museum and Exhibition complex Tatiana Koptseva and the head of the office of humanitarian researches of the Museum Yevgeniya Khozyainova.
