The chapel of the 19th century will be restored in Nadym
Scientific work on study of the chapel of the 19th century in the district of the Yarudey River was completed in Nadym district. Specialists of one of scientific and production associations of Tyumen fulfilled complex architectural researches and prepared design and estimate documentation on restoration of the monument.
This year, according to the agreement with the eparchy of Salekhard and Noviy Urengoy, it is planned to transport the chapel to the yard of the temple in Nadym. As the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs, it is offered to restore destroyed elements (the cross, the window frames, the door and others). As we should remind, in 2006 the ethnographer Vadim Gritsenko found the chapel near the Yarudey River. Nomads know this object under the name "Khekhe mja", which in Nenets language means "a sacred choum". (The note, a choum is a home of nomads, reindeer herders; it is similar to a tepee). By stories of northern aborigines, their ancestors – reindeer herders from the Yamal peninsula were christened here. The present look of the chapel indicates that it was built in traditions of folk architecture without attracting of typical projects being used during that period of time in Tobolsk province. It is simple by its construction without any claims for high artistic features. In the opinion of historians and archeologists of Yamal, the necessity in conducting of this work on preservation of the monument is obvious in connection with hard accessibility and possibility of its destroying in the result of forest fires and threat of anthropogenic character. As we should note, the chapel as an object of cultural legacy is the only wooden orthodox construction of the 19th-20th centuries preserved in Yamal.
