The corporation "UralVagonZavod" is elaborating the armored vehicle "Arktika"

Russian tank builders are creating the newest armored personnel carrier "Arktika" with high terrain crossing capability for use in northern latitudes. This information was given by the deputy head of the corporation "UralVagonZavod" on special equipment Vyacheslav Khalitov.

According to his words, now the corporation is developing a prototype of the future two-section APC for Arctic brigades – the armored personnel carrier "Arktika". "Two-section" means connection of two elements: the first contains a power unit, a driving compartment, the second - mainly a troop compartment or different weapons systems, as Vyacheslav Khalitov notes. He adds that this machinery shows excellent off-road capability, especially in swampy areas, in the arctic zone, as RIA "Novosti" informs. In recent years Russia started active economic development of its northern territories, including hydrocarbon production and development of the Northern Sea Route. The whole complex of measures, including military ones, is directed to protection of Russian interests in the Arctic.
