The Days of the Arctic in Voronezh were opened with the lecture about geopolitical interests of states

The project "The Days of the Arctic in Voronezh" was started in Voronezh. The regional department of the Russian Geographical Society and the faculty of geography, geo-ecology and tourism at Voronezh State University are the initiators of the action. As RIA "Voronezh" informs, the first lecture was dedicated to geopolitical interests of states in the Arctic. The next lecture will take place on the 11th of March. Its theme is the travel to Spitsbergen Island. Lectures about economic and ecological problems of the Arctic, about history of researches and others will be organized within the project.

As we should remind, recently the Arctic region was discussed in Archangelsk Oblast, where the week of celebration of the Day of the Arctic took place. The row of thematic activities with participation of famous polar explorers, scientists, representatives of the Russian Geographical Society, political figures of the region and Russia took place in the Northern (Arctic) Federal University of Lomonosov. The participants discussed the issue of global warming. The winter school "Model Arctic Council" became one of the central events of the week. This is the international action organized for developing and strengthening of cooperation between educational institutions in the arctic region. Students from Russia, the USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Great Britain, Indonesia and Thailand participated in work of the school, as it is informed on the website rgo.ru. The Arctic zone of Russia includes Murmansk Oblast, Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and also some parts of Karelia, Komi Republic and Yakutia, Archangelsk Oblast and Krasnoyarsk Krai.
