The easternmost point of Europe was set in the Polar Urals

This year an important event will take place in tourist life of Yamal – opening of the stele and the tourist route "The easternmost point of Europe".

Three other extreme points of the continent exist already during long time: the southern point is Point Marroqui - Punta de Tarifa (Spain), the western point - Cabo da Roca (Portugal) and the northern point – the North Cape (Norway). All of them are a kind of brands and attractive sights for tourists. The eastern part was not known for wide circle of people during long time. In the course of the work on creation of the Polar Ural Natural Park opened last year the institute of geography of the Russian academy of sciences set that the easternmost point of the European continent was situated exactly here. The Russian center for exploration of the Arctic decided to organize the expedition for its defining and fixing on the locality. Representatives of the Federal agency on tourism (Rosturizm), the institute of geography of the RAS, tourist organizations of Yamal, the magazine "Uralskiy Sledopyt" (Ural pathfinder), travelers from Norway, Czechia and Switzerland will participate in it. The expedition is on the stage of active preparation, the start is scheduled for this August. Setting of the point will allow increasing tourist attractiveness of Yamal. Collecting of tourist objects is one of trends among modern travelers. Mountains and tops, rivers and lakes, countries and towns, poles of the planet and extreme points of continents become a part of such collections. Champions and honorary collectors, who successfully collect full number of "trophies", appear. Equipping and opening of the eastern point will complete registration of extreme points of the continental Europe, as Ivan Popov, the head of the project and a geologist from Salekhard notes. As he says, in the result, the tourist object of All-Russian significance able to attract attention and interest to the unique arctic district will appear. It can become the visiting card of the Polar Ural Natural Park that was formed here in 2014.
