The electoral system of Yamal is ready for the election

The election commission of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug together with chairpersons of territorial election commissions came to a conclusion that nothing was omitted within the preparation. It is possible to say that Yamal is fully ready for the upcoming election. It was announced on the 10th of September by the chairman of the election commission of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Andrey Gibert at the press conference in the situational media center of Yamal “Election-2020”.

According to Andrey Gibert, it was preceded with a lot of preparatory work, which involved all structures, combined efforts of election commissions at all levels, executive authorities and local self-governments.

The chairman of the electoral commission underlines that the region-wide campaign is taking place in conditions of political competition. There are 297 participating candidates, of who 286 are nominated by seven political associations. According to the results of the registration, the contest on party lists makes on an average 22 candidates per one mandate. 50 candidates were registered in 11 single-mandate districts, in other words, approximately 4 people per seat.

Parliamentary parties demonstrated the highest activity; their representatives make 70% of the total number of the registered candidates. Along with them, three non-parliamentary associations are competing for seats in the regional parliament: “Rodina” (Motherland), “Party of Growth”, and “The Communist Party of Social Justice”.

In general, 672 candidates were nominated at all election levels, and 632 were registered, what makes 94%.

“All this confirms that the election in Yamal is competitive and multi-party”, summed up Andrey Gibert.

(The election of deputies to the Legislative Assembly of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of the seventh convocation will be held on the single voting day - the 13th of September, 2020.)
