The exhibition telling about the Arctic and the Antarctic was opened in Yekaterinburg
The exposition presents different exhibits united with one theme. Visitors can see the collection of minerals collected by participants of the expedition in the Antarctica. The gallery of stone carving art presented art-works by craftspeople of stone carving from Nizhny Tagil. Also works of several Ural artists are participating in the exhibition.
One of them – Andrey Yeletsky presented 10 pictures painted under the impression from stories of travelers. Photo-reports and books published by the results of expeditions, a bronze portrait sculpture of one of pathfinders of the Antarctica Mikhail Lazarev, the map of Ural polar transport corridor – these and many other exhibits are presented on the exhibition.
Sverdlovsk Regional Universal Scientific Library named after V. G. Belinsky, which gave books from its funds dedicated to exploration of the Arctic and the Antarctic, supported the initiatives of the organizers. Among them there are modern editions and rarities, including books of the head of the first soviet expedition to Yamal Vladimir Yevladov. The club "Dikiy sever" (Wild North) is one of the partners of the exhibition. Last year within the expedition to Yamal the participants of the club found a fossil looking like a skull of a reptile. The representatives of the club presented their exhibits and prepared unique northern dishes to entertain the guests. The exhibition will work till the end of May. The non-commercial foundation "Russian Antarctica – 2020" is its organizer. It was founded by the group of enthusiasts. Some of them in 2004 participated in construction of the first Orthodox Church on the icy continent. According to the information given to a correspondent of IA "Sever-Press" by the head of the foundation Vladimir Chernykh, last year with his friends – likeminded people he was in the Antarctica on the 10th anniversary of the consecration of the church. On their own money the travelers created a bronze portrait sculpture of one of pathfinders of the Antarctica – Faddey Bellingshausen and set it on the Russian polar station with the same name. The idea to organize the foundation appeared after return from the expedition. In 2020 it will be 200 years since discovery of the Antarctica. At the same time, a page of exploration of the continent and a heroic deed of explorers are weakly known. Therefore, the foundation sets the task to attract attention of the public to the topic of exploration of polar latitudes. According to the words of Vladimir Chernykh, the foundation plans to set a portrait sculpture of one of pathfinders of the Antarctica Mikhail Lazarev on the polar station "Novolazarevskaya". Also at the same place representatives of the foundation plan to participate in building of the second Orthodox Church. Coordinating of work and designing of the church is taking place now.
