The Federal Arctic Forum is taking place in Moscow
The Federal Arctic Forum “The Arctic Days in Moscow” is taking place from the 21st to the 26th of November at once on several central platforms of the capital.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation at support of the government of Moscow, the Russian Academy of Sciences and Lomonosov Moscow State University has been the main organizer of the Federal Arctic Forum for the third year in a row. Important issues, from solving of which development of the Arctic depends, are being discussed within the forum. “Open dialogue” – the discussion with participation of the minister of natural resources and environment of the Russian Federation Sergey Donskoy and young polar explorers of the Russian autonomous non-profit organization “North Initiative” is taking place on the first day of the forum. Preliminarily the Director of United Nations Environment Programme’s Regional Office for Europe Jan Dusik, a laureate of the Nobel Prize of 2007, Professor Terry Callaghan, the United Nations Patron of the Oceans Lewis Pugh and other official persons have already confirmed their participation in “Open dialogue”. The strategy of scientific researches in the Arctic with an accent on prospects for young scientists and international cooperation is the main theme of this meeting. The participants are paying special attention to decrease in ice cover, prospects of development of the Northern Sea Route and use of floating platforms for year-round scientific researches in the Arctic, changes in ecological systems and preservation of biological diversity in the Arctic. The talk is about registration of thawing of permafrost at exploitation and further development of infrastructure in the Arctic, prospects of exploration and extraction of natural resources, participation of young scientists in long-term expeditions and researches. The business session “The Arctic: from reserves to development” is taking place on the same day. Representatives of the administration of the Ministry of natural resources, top-managers of companies conducting activity in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation are participating in the sitting of the round table. Several television bridges with the largest infrastructural projects in the Arctic are taking place within the business session. The first day of the forum will be completed with opening of the exhibition of photographs on the visit of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill to the Antarctica, which will take place in the Bogolyubov Library of Arts. The international scientific conference “Open Arctic” dedicated to topical issues of study and scientific-technical development of the Arctic will take place on the 22nd of November. Within the conference it is planned to conduct sessions of scientific sections and also to discuss unique scientific-technical elaborations and projects of development of arctic territories. The plenary session will become the key event of the conference “Open Arctic”. In the center of attention there are topical issues of study and scientific-technical development of the Arctic, ecological security, summing up of the intermediate results of expedition activity. Traditionally Russian and foreign researchers of the Arctic, polar explorers, young scientists, journalists, businesspeople, state and public figures are participating in work of the forum. The unique exposition “Discoveries on the Edge of the World” will be opened on the 23rd of November in the Museum of Moscow at participation of Sergey Donskoy. The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography is inviting to the photographic exhibition “Russian conquest of the arctic. Heir of avant-garde Yakov Khalip”. The exposition is dedicated to the past and the present of arctic researches in Russia. The exposition “Archeology of the Arctic” will be opened in Moscow Archaeological Museum. The collection of arctic artifacts from museums of northern regions of Russia will be presented in the center of the capital for the first time. Also cultural activities will take place in the Museum of Moscow, VDNH (the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy) and the Bogolyubov Library of Arts. The photo-exhibition of city-format “Industrial Arctic. Ecology and development” is planned. The exhibition will present photo-archives of leading photographers and reporters – participants of international contests and also photographs presented by companies working in the Arctic. On VDNH on the 25th of November Sergey Donskoy will open the biggest skating rink in Europe and will present the next 2017 year, the Year of Ecology. As we should note, the Federal Arctic Forum “The Arctic Days in Moscow” is one of the largest events on arctic themes in Russia. Since 2010 it has gathered the best experts – Russian and foreign scientists being busy with researching of the Arctic, the heads of the executive power of arctic regions and representatives of business.
