The first digital substation in the Arctic will ensure development of the Novoportovskiy cluster
Assemblage of the main equipment of the Sever digital power substation was completed in Novoportovskoye field of “Gazprom Neft”. It will provide power supply to cluster sites and social-domestic facilities in the northern part of the field, which is located 26 kilometers away from the main infrastructure of the asset in terms of autonomy.
Construction of the digital substation have been implemented for the first time in the Arctic at oil and gas production facilities within the national project of the Russian Ministry of energy “Development and implementation of digital electric substations and stations at newly constructed and reconstructed energy facilities”. When designing the substation, specialists adapted the structure of the building and equipment to work in extreme climate conditions of the arctic region, and applied innovative domestic elaborations in the sphere of SF6 equipment.
The Sever dual-transformer digital substation (110/10kV) is capable of providing uninterrupted power to a populated area of 10 thousand people, as the press center of “Gazprom Neft” reports. Owing to innovative systems of intelligent control and diagnostics, the minimum number of workers is required to maintain the facility, what is important for remote field objects. The signal is transmitted in the digital format and provides maximum automation of measurement, control and protection of equipment. All systems will be monitored remotely by specialists from the control room of the gas turbine power plant of Novoportovskoye field. The Sever digital substation consists of equipment of domestic production by 95%. Its commissioning is planned until the end of 2020.
“Today an innovative approach to production tasks is the most important factor for their successful solution. It fully applies to the energy sector. Creating high-tech facilities of generation and infrastructure in severe conditions of the Arctic, our specialists develop the unique experience. I have no doubt that these competencies will be in demand when implementing new large-scale projects”, said Andrey Komarov, the director of the gas and energy directorate of “Gazprom Neft”.
According to Aleksey Ovechkin, CEO of “Gazpromneft-Yamal”, use of the intelligent electrification system in terms of autonomy is the key to implementation of new projects in the Arctic and launch of remote extractive fields.
“Today this is the country’s unique example of construction of such facility in the Far North. We are confident that our experience will open up prospects not only for development of Novoportovskoye field, but also for other enterprises operating in the Arctic”, he said.
Development of the northern part of Novoportovskoye field is a promising project of “Gazpromneft-Yamal” on development of new reserves in the license area. In 2019 designing of the main facilities of infrastructure was completed and full-scale drilling of cluster sites was started. Investments in development of the northern part of Novoportovskoye field will amount to more than 86 milliard rubles. The Sever substation is being created as the main energy hub of the project.
