The first seismic sensor was set in the district of Sabetta

The seismic sensor was set in the district of Sabetta within the expedition organized by the interregional expedition center “Arctic”.

Two other sensors will be set near Bovanenkovo field and the settlement Kharasavey. The devices are required by scientists to monitor, to study and to predict possible dangerous natural phenomena in the area of industrial development. The sensors will register oscillations of the earth’s surface and pass information through channels of mobile communication to the interregional expedition center “Arctic” and the unified geophysical service of the Russian Academy of Sciences for further processing and interpretation. Eleven people are participating in the expedition - experts and scientists of the Unified geophysical service, the Institute of oil and gas problems, the Institute of the Earth’s Cryosphere, the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the interregional center “Arctic” and the department on science and innovations of Yamal. A Trecol and two all-terrain vehicles “Ural-Polyarnik” were used from the arsenal of the center “Arctic”. The deputy director of the department on science and innovations of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Aleksey Nemchinov says that a well with the depth 4 meters was drilled in the area of Sabetta in perennial frozen soil, and the sensor was placed into the well. An event logger equipped with everything necessary for autonomic work remained on the surface. Beside the seismic sensor, the expedition delivered an accommodation module to the district of Sabetta for arranging of the permanent study area, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs. This territory is a location for permanent monitoring of state of terrestrial ecosystems in the Yamal tundra. Researches are conducted by scientists of Yamal and their colleagues from the Russian Academy of Sciences, foreign research centers and universities. In the accommodation module there is a stove, food products and fuel briquettes. By the beginning of the field season the permanent study area will be completed with everything necessary for accommodation of scientists.
