The first tanker for the project "Yamal LNG" will be input to operation in 2016

The first tanker – gas carrier for the project "Yamal LNG" will be input to operation in 2016. This information was given on the International economic forum in Saint-Petersburg by the chairperson of the management board of the company "NOVATEK" Leonid Mikhelson.

By his words, the tanker will have the strengthened ice class and can independently move on the Northern Sea Route. As the head of the company notes, the opportunity of safe transportation of hydrocarbons by northern waters was confirmed in practice. As he adds, transportation in the Arctic is more expensive than in southernmost seas, but the cost is compensated with lower prime cost of production of liquefied gas in Yamal because of low average yearly temperatures. He is sure that liquefied natural gas of Yamal will be competitive on all markets. The project "Yamal LNG" foresees building of the plant on production of LNG with capacity in 16 million and 500 thousand tons per year on resource base of the South-Tambey field. Proved and probable reserves of gas in the field make 907 milliard cubic meters, as the agency "PortNews" reminds.
